Sarah Strickland: Amistad’s first Peace and Love Corp Teacher Sarah Strickland, 25, a recent graduate of Andrews University with a Bachelor’s of Music degree in piano performance, is Amistad’s first volunteer teacher among the Huichol Indians. Sarah has been teaching violin and piano since she was 15. She and her brother were home-schooled by their parents at the family farm in Union Springs, NY, where they often had to conserve their well water. Sarah’s tiny Sierra house has no electricity, and sometimes no water, so she was ready for the challenge. Moving to San Miguel, Sarah first installed a mosquito net to keep scorpions and other insects out of her bed, a minor inconvenience compared to the enormous happiness she is experiencing teaching English and music. Sarah raised nearly $3,300 from her family and friends to fund her expenses during this school year, for her self-designed "Huichol English Project."
